Speak your mind with one word

2008-04-09

WE all have quick ways to express our emotions. In China, it's becoming increasingly common for university students to use English instead of Chinese to show their feelings about something. How can you use just one word to express yourself? See the following examples:

Expressing pleasure

Terrific! 了不起!

Amazing! 太神奇了!

Bravo! 太棒了!

Gorgeous! 美呆了!

Superb! 棒极了!

Incredible/Unbelievable! 难以置信!

Perfect! 很完美!

Alice: Celina, what do you think of my new dress?

Celina: It's gorgeous!

Expressing displeasure or disagreement

Rats! 胡说!

Lousy! 差劲!

Crap! 废话!

Ridiculous! 胡说!

Lee: I heard that you've dumped several girls.

Yang: Rats!Who said that?

Answering requests

Willingly! 乐意之至!

Anytime! 随时吩咐!

Deal! 一言为定!

Susan: Hi Adam, would you please do me a favor?

Adam: Willingly, dear.
